The Hearing House helps deaf children to learn to listen and speak, and patients in need of cochlear implants to access sound again.

We were engaged by the charity to design a two-storey addition to the original heritage building.

The lower level contains reception and parent meeting rooms in the re-furbished existing building and staff offices in the newbuild , while therapy rooms and sound booth audiology suites are located on the upper level. The new building links to the existing house by means of an architecturally distinctive two-storey glazed stair gallery which forms a welcoming new entry.

By breaking up the massing into elements of white panels, faceted cedar, glass and heritage weatherboard, the design creates a welcoming, scaled-down environment for potentially anxious children and parents.

The Hearing House has achieved a very successful outcome which to a large degree can be attributed to Bossley Architects involvement and commitment to the project.
