STATUS
Design
An innovative concept for a large site on the outskirts of Shanghai, offering unique living environments for up to 12,000 occupants.
Designed to incorporate essential feng-shui principles, a series of linear buildings stretch across the flat site, curving in plan to create a range of partially enclosed public spaces. Simultaneously, landscaped roofs rise and fall, providing another level of gardens and circulation for the inhabitants to enjoy.
From the undulating garden roofs rise towers of apartments, with four apartments per floor gathered around full-height atria utilising prevailing winds to provide chimney-effect natural ventilation.
The masterplan included 4,000 apartments, 63,000m² of commercial and retail space, sportsclubs, crèche and junior schools, and 3,800 covered car parks.
