Much more than just a bridge, it has become a magnet that nurtures community connections
This new footbridge to connect Mangere and Onehunga replaces the current well-worn bridge, which is a key link for cyclists and pedestrians from both communities. It sits beside SH20, curved in form to allow ample visibility of the entire bridge for users and permit the current bridge to remain in use whilst the new one is constructed. This curve re-orients the pedestrian to face either Mangere Mountain or One Tree Hill/Mangakeikei. The structure is supported by an efficient load bearing arch, eloquently creating a design feature whilst providing a key functional requirement.
The bridge is extra wide, with additional bays to accommodate a variety of pursuits, from walking and cycling to fishing and generally hanging about.
